Meet The Artist

Dr. Fatih Özkafa

Prof. Dr. Fatih Özkafa (b. 1974) is an internationally acclaimed master calligrapher and academic born in Konya, Turkey. He began his hüsn-i hat (calligraphy) training in 1994 under the master Calligrapher Dr. Hüseyin Öksüz, receiving his icâzetnâme (diploma) in the sülüs and nesih scripts in 2002 before mastering divanî, celî divanî, and ta’lîk. Alongside his deep artistic practice, he pursued a distinguished academic career, earning a doctorate in Art History in 2008 with a thesis focused on the monumental belt inscriptions of Istanbul’s imperial mosques, and rising to the rank of Professor of Turkish-Islamic Arts History at Marmara University in 2020. A five-time international award winner in prestigious competitions held by IRCICA and Albaraka, his masterful penmanship includes the transcription of six complete juz of the Holy Qur’an for the U.A.E. Ministry of Culture’s International Mushaf Meetings. Today, Prof. Özkafa serves as the President of the Islamic Arts History Association and a member of the Turkish National Palaces Advisory Committee, seamlessly blending academic scholarship with classical and modern calligraphic production for prominent collections worldwide.
