Meet The Artist

Seyit Ahmet Depeler

Seyit Ahmet Depeler was born in Konya in 1986. Inspired by the encouragement of his grandfather, the late calligrapher Abdullah Rıza, he began his journey into the art of calligraphy in 1999 under the guidance of Master Tahir Güçlü, learning the Rik’a script. The following year, in 2000, he commenced his training in thuluth (sülüs) with the esteemed Master Hüseyin Öksüz. In 2006, he was admitted to Selçuk University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Crafts (Traditional Arts), graduating in 2010. During his university education, he expanded his repertoire by studying diwani and jali diwani under Master Fatih Özkafa. Deeply dedicated to refining his craft, Depeler frequently visits Istanbul to benefit from the insights of premier contemporary masters, including Mehmed Özçay, Osman Özçay, Davut Bektaş, and Ali Toy. To date, his masterful execution has earned him a total of 14 prestigious awards in national and international competitions. He continues to push the boundaries of his artistic practice today, ongoingly studying the Ta’lik script with his long-time mentor, Hüseyin Öksüz.
